The Duomo (Cathedral) at Orvieto is a large 14th-century Cathedral constructed under the orders of Pope Urban IV to commemorate the Miracle of Balsena, which is said to have occurred in 1263 The Cathedral is very large for the size of the town and has a beautifully decorated gothic façade made up of gold and other highly coloured mosaics, bas relief depicting biblical stories from the old and new testament and other intricate decoration.
