Le Palais Ideal
Ferdinand Cheval (1836-1924) left school at 13 yrs. He spent thirty-three years of his life being a postman (facteur) by day, collecting stones and building his dream palace, Le Palais idéal (the "Ideal Palace"), at night. Le Palais Ideal covers some 78 square metres and is located in Hauterives, France, in an area called Drome between Valence and Lyon. It is regarded as an extraordinary example of naïve art architecture and is a mix of different styles with inspirations from Christianity to Hinduism.
